The UAE has been ranked the second safest country in the world for 2025.
This was announced recently by the international online platform NUMBEO.
In the new Numbeo 2025 Security Index, the UAE ranked second only to Andorra. The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) also stood out in the new ranking: Qatar came third, Oman fifth, Saudi Arabia 14th and Bahrain 16th.
It should be noted that Numbeo compiles its index on the basis of user surveys in which a series of fairly complex and correctly worded questions are answered:
- Personal assessment of a country's crime rate.
- Assessment of safety: how it is perceived by residents and visitors. Specifically, respondents were asked to rate perceptions of safety during the day and separately at night.
- Concerns about specific types of crime. For example, robbery, car theft, harassment in public places. The extent of discrimination based on ethnicity, skin colour, religion and gender was also assessed.
- Property crime (theft, robbery, vandalism) and violent crime (murder, sexual offences, assault) were measured.
According to Numbeo, the UAE has strict laws and law enforcement agencies monitor their enforcement.
There is close surveillance, especially in cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi, which allows authorities to prevent crime. Artificial intelligence and smart policing projects are helping to speed up the detection and investigation of crime. The UAE's strong economy and high standard of living minimise the motivation for crime.
The government invests in social welfare and employment opportunities to prevent socio-economic hardship from escalating into unrest. Women and children can travel safely at night thanks to well-lit streets, frequent police patrols and strict anti-harassment laws. Tourists generally report feeling safer in the UAE than in many other places in the world.
